Dining room walls just have to go!

"Before" John was on a roll. Got the dining room flooring ripped up on Saturday. Sunday he started tearing down the drywall and furring strips, exposing a surprisingly decorative brick wall. We were more than ready now for the crews to show up on Monday and get started. "After" looking south. "After" looking north and east.

Main roof OSB board; kitchen bay window removal starts

1:00pm on Tuesday, May 18 Work done: Main roof sheathing installed with OSB boards. Nice lines! Standing on the front-of-house roof - view of the new center hip roof. In the evening John started to work on removing the bay window in the kitchen. Work on the back entryway to start tomorrow!

Visit to our Amish cabinetmaker near Clare, MI

We learned about Ervin Byler from our friend, Jenn Green. Ervin is the founder, (it seems) of Meadowview Kitchen in Farwell, MI (near Clare, MI). Since he is Amish, we would call and leave a message on a voicemail, and a day or two later he would call back. We had sent him our list of cabinets, and several weeks later he sent us back a quote. It looks like the quote was typed with a typewriter on a printed form! We liked the quote, so we planned on visiting on April 10. As fate would have it, that is when we landed in official COVID isolation (we had tested positive on either Apr. 6 or Apr. 11). So we had to postpone it until April 24. Below are some photos of that delightful visit! There was only this other "vehicle" in the parking lot when we arrived! He took us into his office and showroom.
