Digging, Cutting Concrete, Lumber Arrival!

Work done:

Delivery of pricey pandemic lumber.

8:00am: JCJ drops off the back-hoe machine.

9:00am: Rod Porter group shows up to excavate the dirt from within the foundation poured for the new back entryway (which they poured on Tuesday). Mike Cole (project manager) thought this group would be laying the block on top of the foundation, but that turned out not to be the case.

Chelsea Lumber's Quote

11:00 Rod Porter's group is gone and FMG group arrives to cut holes in the concrete in the dining room area. The holes create access to the kitchen crawl space from the dining room and vice versa. John had them also cut access from the dining room crawl space to the crawl space under our bedroom. We had never seen that space before! One thing was as expected - not an ounce of insulation!

This work included a $700 change order for the cut to access the bedroom and for the fact that no one had anticipated 24" concrete needing to be cut. Plans included only 18".

12 noon-ish: lumber delivered by Chelsea Lumber. Twice as expensive as was in our quote - and it was the best of three bids!

This is how it looked at the end of the day:
We now have a drawbridge over a muddy moat!

View from inside the kitchen - looking out the back door.

The crawl space under our bedroom. No insulation. Just a few leaks in the heating pipes.
